Langston Rogers is in his 43rd year at the University of Mississippi, having joined the Ole Miss athletics department on July 1, 1981, as sports information director. When he retired in 2010 after 29 years of service, he held the position of senior associate athletics director for media relations. Although now retired, he continues to serve the University of Mississippi on a part-time basis as Special Assistant to the Athletics Director for History.
Prior to joining Ole Miss, Rogers served 17 years as SID at his alma mater, Delta State University, where he also played baseball as a student. His B.S.E. and M.Ed. degrees are both from DSU.
In 1980, at age 36, Rogers became the youngest president in history of the 3,000-member College Sports Communicators (CSC) and served 11 years on its Board of Directors. He continues to serve on a number of CSC’s key committees — including the Past-Presidents Council, Special Awards, and Hall of Fame – and has been awarded numerous times by that national organization.
Rogers, has been inducted into eight Halls of Fame, including the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, the Ole Miss M-Club Hall of Fame and the Delta State Alumni Hall of Fame. In 2023, he was honored by the University of Mississippi Alumni Association with its Honorary Alumni Award. CSC also honored him with the naming of the Langston Rogers Postgraduate Scholarship, a $10,000 annual scholarship presented to a minority or female athletics public relations professional.
He is married to the former Paula Lowery of Cleveland, Miss. They have two children, Laura and Bill, and four grandchildren — Austin, Anna, Abby and Avery. Laura received her PhD from the University of Mississippi, while Bill’s undergraduate degree is also from Ole Miss.
